Laboratory Releases Master Plan for FY05
NREL released its Sustainable NREL Master Plan for FY05, which details initiative goals and implementation strategy. The master plan is the outcome of an FY01 NREL management directive — the Sustainable NREL Initiative — which helps identify ways to help NREL become more sustainable in all its operations and in synergy with the Laboratory's missions. Lab Honored With Federal Energy and Water Management Award
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) recently received a Federal Energy and Water Management Award, recognizing individuals and organizations for making significant contributions to the efficient use of energy and water resources in the federal government. Each year, the U.S. Department of Energy — in conjunction with the Federal Interagency Energy Policy Committee ("656" Committee) — sponsors these awards. The Federal Energy and Water Management Awards are based on outstanding achievements in key areas of sustainability. (December 2004) More
Sustainability Report for 2003-04 Released
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) recently released its "Sustainability Report - 2003-04," highlighting the Lab's comprehensive sustainability activities and NREL's progress toward achieving overall sustainability goals. The report features the Lab's performance in areas including transportation, natural gas/electricity, water, green purchasing, waste disposal/recycling, and CO2 emissions. In 2000, NREL formalized it sustainability activities, building on earlier efforts. This data will provide a meaningful baseline for future reporting and help define possible areas for improvement. NREL Joins National Environmental Performance Track
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) recently was accepted into the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) National Environmental Performance Track (NEPT) program. One of 39 new members from 22 states, the Lab was recognized for its impressive record of environmental management and performance. NREL's successful Environmental Management System (EMS), which is supplemented by the Lab's Sustainable NREL (SN) program, was recognized for its continuous environmental improvement. NREL Releases 25-Year Site-Development Plan
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) recently released its General Development Vision - 2003 (PDF 3.5 MB). While researchers at NREL work on alternative-energy technologies for the nation, they also believe in "walking the talk" in their own backyard. NREL's long-term vision is to develop a world-renowned, high-performance research center at South Table Mountain, which showcases energy technology innovation and leadership - and embraces the best in energy and ecological conservation practices.
