Bringing Recyclables From Home

NREL has two locations for depositing recyclables from home: (1) at the FTLB in the southwest corner of the parking lot, and (2) behind Building 17 (northeast corner). The materials collected at the two locations differ, as listed below.

It is especially important when recycling boxes from home that packing materials are discarded and the boxes are broken down flat. These steps may be most easily accomplished at home. Also note that milk cartons and other waxed cardboard are not recyclable—they are trash.

Please remember that you cannot recycle household hazardous waste at NREL. However, you can access this Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment site for more information on where these materials can be taken for disposal.

FTLB (southwest corner of parking lot)

Include the following items in the large roll-off container. These items may be mixed together, and are referred to as "comingled containers":

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • #1 and #2 plastic containers and other plastic items labeled #1 or #2
  • Cans (aluminum, tin, and steel)
