New Fact Sheet Explains Solar Power's Role in Grid of the Future
April 13, 2010
In today's electricity generation system, different resources make different contributions to the electricity grid. A new fact sheet published by the Energy Analysis Group at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) tells how distributed and centralized renewable energy technologies, specifically solar power, will contribute to the electricity system of the future.
The fact sheet covers the basics of how the electric grid works and why we need it; the roles of the various types of generation and where renewable energy fits in; why generation diversity is essential; and why a variety of renewable energy technologies with different characteristics will be needed to meet changing electricity demand.
Access the fact sheet, entitled "Solar Power and the Electric Grid", on the Publications page of NREL's Concentrating Solar Power Research Web site.
