Smart Grid: Transforming the US Electric Power Grid, Wade O. Troxell

Smart grid “best practices” will explain distributed energy resources in the context of the physical power grid, its incorporation of market dynamics enabled by information technologies, and coupled with large-scale intelligent control infrastructure. The impacts of large-scale networked distributed energy resources will lead to a more robust, reliable, and renewable US electric power grid providing for significant economic, efficiency, and environmental benefits.

Introduction to Investing In Renewable Energy, Tom Konrad

An overview of the investment vehicles and strategies available for investing in renewable end energy efficiency companies. Targeted to the novice to intermediate investor. Will cover mutual funds, ETFs, and touch on stock picking strategies.

Speakers will include:

Tom Konrad, Investment Analyst at AltEnergyStocks.com (a provider of high-quality, original research into alternative energy, renewable energy, and clean technology companies). Tom is also a writer specializing in public renewable energy and energy efficiency companies. He has a Ph.D. in mathematics from Purdue University , and is a Level III candidate for the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. He is regularly interviewed or appears on national and international investing, news, and clean energy publications and programs.

Wade O. Troxell, Ph.D. is the Associate Dean for Research and Economic Development in the College of Engineering at Colorado State University . Dr. Troxell is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of intelligent robotics and intelligent control of distributed systems. Power Lunch Lecture Series: Net Metering 101 By NREL’s Trudy Forsyth

May 21, 2008, 12:00 - 1:00 MDT

  • Golden, CO
  • Contact: NREL Visitors Center 303.384.6565

Imagine the thrill of your electric meter spinning backwards as you produce electricity from your solar panel or small wind turbine.   What is the policy that allows for an electric meter to spin backwards?  Where do those policies exist?  How do you make arrangements with your local utility to access net metering policy? What challenges exist for areas that don’t have existing net metering policy?

This presentation is part of NREL’s “Visitors Center Power Lunch Lecture Series.”  Participants are welcome to bring a lunch and enjoy.
