Polycrystalline Thin Films

Global Solar Energy

Global Solar Energy

Global Solar Energy (GSE) is working toward advances in processing and understanding to move the photovoltaics community toward 20%-efficient CIGS devices on steel for eventual use with concentrator systems. The specific objectives are to determine the important variables in the efficiency difference between the best devices on glass and the best devices on steel, and to improve short-wavelength current collection by eliminating the CdS layer. The Cd will be diffused into CIGS to form the junction and produce at least 16%-efficient CIGS devices on stainless steel and demonstrate improved blue-light collection and insignificant efficiency degradation between steel and glass.
