Students Race Innovative Solar, Hydrogen Model Cars

Seventy-eight teams from 29 Colorado middle schools will participate in the Junior Solar Sprint and Hydrogen Fuel Cell car competitions hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory.  The student teams will race solar or hydrogen powered vehicles that they designed and built themselves. Trophies will be presented to winners in four categories.

What:    Model car inspection, judging, races and awards ceremony

Who:     Seventy-eight teams from 29 Colorado middle schools.

When:    7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday May 16

Where:  Dakota Ridge High School, 13399 W. Coal Mine Ave., Littleton, CO 80127

EDITORS NOTE: Races will be held in three heats in the Dakota Ridge parking lot from 10 a.m. through 2:30 p.m., including an hour-long lunch break. The awards ceremony will be conducted following the 2:30 p.m. final competition.
