The Crucibles Science Club Wins Colorado Science Bowl

Team Heads to Washington D.C. to Challenge Students from Across the USA for National Title

Students from The Crucibles Science Club in Denver won the Colorado High School Science Bowl today. In the final round of rapid-fire questions and answers, The Crucibles (team one) edged out Pueblo Centennial High School (team one).  After battling through questions in physics, math, biology, astronomy, chemistry, computers and earth sciences, The Crucibles advance to the National Science Bowl in Washington D.C. (April 30 – May 5). There, they will compete for the national title against more than 450 students from 67 U.S. high schools. 

Teams from across the state competed in the day-long competition at Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton. The Crucibles’ Science Club - team two - rounded out the top finishers to take home the third place trophy. Other school teams that survived the morning competitions and advanced to the afternoon double-elimination contests were:

• Arapahoe High School (Centennial) – team one
• Cheyenne Mountain High School (Colorado Springs) – team one
• Coronado High School - (Colorado Springs) – team one and two
• D’Evelyn Senior High (Denver) – team one and two
• Dakota Ridge High School (Littleton) – team one
• Douglas County High School (Castle Rock) – team two
• Eaglecrest High School (Aurora) – team one
• John F. Kennedy High School (Denver) – team one
• Lakewood High School – team one
• Longmont High School – team one
• Pueblo Centennial High School – team one and two
• Smoky Hill High School (Aurora) – team two
• The Crucibles Science Club (Denver) – team one and two
• Thunder Ridge High School (Highlands Ranch) – team one

Sponsors for this year’s Colorado High School Science Bowl are the U.S. Department of Energy Golden Field Office; DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL); Xcel Energy Foundation; Alliance for Sustainable Energy, LLC; Jefferson County Public Schools; Dakota Ridge High School; U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science; and Warren Tech Career and Technical High School.

The National Science Bowl is celebrating 19 years of competition and is the only academic event of its kind that is sponsored by a U.S. government agency.  Approximately 15,000 high school students from across the country compete for a chance to go to Washington D.C. for the national finals.
