Golden, Colo., April 17, 1998 Media are invited to cover Earth Day celebration designed to inspire a new generation of scientists to discover better ways of using our natural resources.
What: The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will host an Earth Day celebration for 60 elementary students. Hands-on activities will include building model solar cars and solar-electric circuit boards and touring the exhibit hall at NREL's Visitors Center. Earth Day posters created by elementary students from across Colorado will be on display.
Who: Fourth and fifth grade students from Johnson, Pioneer, Wyman and Cowell Elementary Schools will participate. Many of these students take part in the Coalition for Learning Opportunities and United Tutors program, a reading initiative which pairs volunteers from NREL, DOE and the community with fourth graders.
When: Tuesday, April 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Where: NREL Visitors Center, 15013 Denver West Parkway in Golden. To reach the Visitors Center, take Interstate 70 to exit 263 (Denver West Boulevard). Turn north toward the Denver Marriot West Hotel. At stop sign, turn left at Denver West Parkway and continue past the hotel. The Visitors Center is on the right.
