Manhattan, Kan. -- Crowds filled the streets around the Capitol Building in downtown Topeka today, as 36 solar powered vehicles passed through on their way to Manhattan, Kansas. Local favorite Kansas State University finished 22nd for the day. "This warm welcome by the city of Topeka certainly made both the teams and staff feel great," said Tom Sheffler, Sunrayce 97 Co-Director. "After a rest day yesterday, everyone was ready to go today" he said, "Hearing the crowds cheer the teams on was certainly gratifying."

Finishing first for today was George Washington University, elapsed time 4:02:57, followed by the University of Waterloo, elapsed time 4:17:18, and Texas A&M, elapsed time 4:17:53. The route today covered 151 miles. Overall California State University - Los Angeles took the lead with a total elapsed time of 17:22:28. Less than 1 hour separates the top five teams.

Since the start of Sunrayce 97 last Thursday, over 400,000 "hits" have been made on the Sunrayce web page. Follow the action with up-to-date information and daily photographs posted on www.sunrayce.com. The events tomorrow will run from Manhattan to Smith Center, Kan. With a mid-day stop in Glasco.
