March 1 - 2, 2013
- Boston, MA
Every year, thought-leaders in energy descend on MIT for one primary reason: to formulate powerful, productive ideas in the face of a rapidly changing industry. Please join us on March 1st and 2nd, 2013 for our eighth annual MIT Energy Conference, which will explore the theme From Idea to Impact - Collaborating to Meet Global Energy Challenges.
The Conference will commence on Friday, March 1st with in-depth Friday panels and a keynote address held on the MIT campus that are free and open to the public. Panel topics include: “Utility of the Future”; “From Coal to Gas – The Emerging Reality of Fossil Generation”; “Breaking the Climate Stalemate”; and “Energy Innovation for Development.” The discussions will carry forward to the Friday Night Energy Showcase at the Boston Park Plaza Castle -- a free exhibit of innovative and breakthrough energy technologies from start-up companies and academic research.
The ticketed Conference on March 2nd will highlight the expertise of energy leaders and provide greater opportunities to participate in fact-based discussions with peers, learn about cutting-edge industry trends, and discover some of MIT’s newest innovations. For the first time, we will also feature an interactive "idea storm" to unite industry experts, policy makers and students in brainstorming solutions to address today's critical energy challenges.
We are also excited to announce the Friday keynote address will be delivered by NRG President and CEO David Crane.

Presented by Dr. Eric Martinot, Author, REN21 Renewables Global Futures Report
The future of renewable energy is fundamentally a choice, not a foregone conclusion given technology and economic trends. The new REN21 Renewables Global Futures Report illuminates that choice by showing the range of credible possibilities for the future of renewable energy. The report is not one scenario or viewpoint, but a synthesis of the contemporary thinking of many, as compiled from 170 interviews with leading experts from around the world, including CEOs and parliamentarians, and from 50 recently published energy scenarios by a range of organizations.
Dr. Eric Martinot is an internationally recognized scholar, writer, and teacher on the subject of renewable energy. He is report author of the just-released REN21 Renewables Global Futures Report, and was lead author until 2010 of the REN21 Renewables Global Status Report, an annual synthesis that he first created in 2005. He currently serves as senior research director with the Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies in Tokyo and teaching fellow with Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
