Power Lunch Lecture: Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation

February 29, 2012, 12:00 - 1:30 MST

NREL Research Fellow Helena Chum will present "Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation" as part of the Power Lunch Lecture Series. Chum will discuss the release of the Special Report on Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The report assesses existing literature on the current and future potential of renewable energy for the mitigation of climate change. It covers the six most important renewable energy technologies, as well as their integration into present and future energy systems. In addition, the report covers the environmental and social consequences associated with these technologies, the cost and strategies to overcome technical as well as non-technical obstacles to their application and diffusion.

More than 130 scientists contributed to the report, including several from NREL. NREL Director Dan Arvizu was a coordinating lead author for direct solar energy conversion.

Participants are welcome to bring a lunch to enjoy during the presentation. Call 303-384-6565 to make a reservation for this free program.
