Financing Wind Power Conference

Consumer Power for the 21st Century is a series of courses on renewable energy for homeowners and businesses, offered on a Saturday morning at the NREL Visitors Center. On May 10, we will focus on investment opportunities in the area of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies and will provide some insight on the economic development potential of the state of Colorado.

Smart Grid: Transforming the US Electric Power Grid, Wade O. Troxell

Smart grid “best practices” will explain distributed energy resources in the context of the physical power grid, its incorporation of market dynamics enabled by information technologies, and coupled with large-scale intelligent control infrastructure. The impacts of large-scale networked distributed energy resources will lead to a more robust, reliable, and renewable US electric power grid providing for significant economic, efficiency, and environmental benefits.

Introduction to Investing In Renewable Energy, Tom Konrad

An overview of the investment vehicles and strategies available for investing in renewable end energy efficiency companies. Targeted to the novice to intermediate investor. Will cover mutual funds, ETFs, and touch on stock picking strategies.

Speakers will include:

Tom Konrad, Investment Analyst at AltEnergyStocks.com (a provider of high-quality, original research into alternative energy, renewable energy, and clean technology companies). Tom is also a writer specializing in public renewable energy and energy efficiency companies. He has a Ph.D. in mathematics from Purdue University , and is a Level III candidate for the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. He is regularly interviewed or appears on national and international investing, news, and clean energy publications and programs.

Wade O. Troxell, Ph.D. is the Associate Dean for Research and Economic Development in the College of Engineering at Colorado State University . Dr. Troxell is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of intelligent robotics and intelligent control of distributed systems. For his current research, he is focused on “smart grid” applications as the Director of the Center for Networked Distributed Energy (NetEnergy) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Introduction to Wind Systems

Intersolar North America 2008 Exhibition and Conference

The inaugural Intersolar North America exhibition and conference is being held in conjunction with SEMICON West 2008 in San Francisco, California. It will represent the most comprehensive solar industry exhibition in the United States and focus on photovoltaics, solar thermal technologies and solar architecture. The conference, running concurrently with the exhibition, will address important issues in photovoltaics, such as crystalline silicon, thin film and concentrator technologies and system technologies.  Solar thermal and integrated technologies, financing and investments, materials issues and politics will also be discussed through a series of specific technical workshops, panel discussions and presentations.

Wind Turbine Design Considerations

2008 SolWest Renewable Energy Fair

"Neighbors Powering Community" is the theme of the tenth annual SolWest Renewable Energy Fair July 25-27, 2008 at the Grant County Fairgrounds in John Day, OR. Admission includes over 50 free workshops on both off-grid and grid-intertied renewable energy (RE) and sustainable living topics. A pre-fair workshop will install a grid-intertied solar backup power system. Fifty exhibitors show tools for energy independence and lifestyle self-reliance, including solar, wind and agricultural resources. Keynote speaker Greg Pahl, author of The Citizen-powered Energy Handbook emphasizes renewable resources for neighborhood energy. Alternative vehicle displays highlight efficient transportation technology. Cost is $5 per adult per day, with weekend, youth, and family discounts, volunteers and children under 12 free. Camping is available (free for volunteers).

Residential Wind Power Workshop 

August 4 - 8, 2008

Participants in this workshop will learn to design and install residential wind systems up to 100kWh/day in capacity. The workshop will cover system sizing, site analysis, installation and safety issues, and hardware specification. Learn about the different commercially available residential wind turbines, how they work, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Students will learn to estimate electrical production of a turbine given the parameters of the site, tower and turbine.
