NREL has supported the Department of Energy (DOE) Hydrogen Program for more than 20 years, providing educational and technical information for a variety of audiences.
NREL performs Web site operations and maintenance for the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Fuel Cell Technologies Program. This Web site provides information about the program's research and development in hydrogen production, delivery, storage, and fuel cells, as well as its activities in technology validation, systems analysis and integration, safety codes and standards, and education. The site also offers educational resources and tools for students and teachers. Its Increase Your H2IQ section includes easy-to-understand fact sheets, a fuel cell animation, and other introductory resources on hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.
In partnership with DOE, NREL also developed an online training course—Introduction to Hydrogen for Code Officials—that provides an overview of emerging hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, how these technologies are used in real-world applications, and the codes and standards required for permitting them.
NREL's Office of Education Programs manages programs and competitions—such as the Junior Solar Sprint/Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car Competition—for K-12 students, research internships and fellowships for university students, partnerships with postdoctoral researchers and research associates, and programs for teachers.
