Student Design Contest — Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle Graphics
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is holding a contest for students to design graphic decals for use on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles at NREL. To be eligible you must be currently enrolled in a graphic design education program at a university, community college, or technical school in the Denver Metro area.
NREL received four Toyota Highlander fuel cell hybrid advanced vehicles (FCHV-adv) on loan for use in the lab's research and education activities. These vehicles are representative of many fuel cell hybrid designs being proposed by automotive companies today, and NREL plans to showcase them at a variety of local events to raise awareness and educate the public about renewable hydrogen fuel production, fuel cells, and advanced vehicle technologies.
As part of its hydrogen education and outreach program, NREL is asking students to design decals for three of the vehicles that represent NREL's mission through graphic images. One or more of the following messages should be represented in each design. Click the links to learn more about each area.
- Sustainable, clean energy
- Renewable hydrogen produced using wind and solar energy
- Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles = clean transportation
Three winning student designs, one for each vehicle, will be selected. Once the graphics are applied, NREL will hold a public event at its Visitor Center to unveil the vehicles and recognize the winning students. The students whose designs are selected will receive $50 for their design services.
Use these image files to prepare your design:
Alternatively, you may use the vehicle mockup template. Read these instructions before preparing your design. The graphic images should be applied over the vehicle image and around existing graphics, adhering to the specifications provided. Some examples of other NREL vehicle designs are provided for review.
Questions may be emailed to Hydrogen Education. An NREL selection committee will evaluate all of the submissions, and selected designers will be notified via email in March.
Individuals may submit more than one design for consideration. Submit your design mockups to Hydrogen Education no later than March 1, 2013. Also include the following information in your email:
