Hydrogen Technologies and Systems Center

NREL's Hydrogen Technologies & Systems Center (HTSC) is helping facilitate the transition to a new energy future—a future built on diverse and abundant renewable resources and integrated hydrogen-production systems.

Directed by Robert Remick, HTSC conducts innovative projects and activities through its Hydrogen Technologies Group and its Hydrogen Analysis Group. These efforts support DOE's Fuel Cell Technologies Program.

Hydrogen Technologies Group

With Robert Remick as the acting group manager, the Hydrogen Technologies Group focuses on the following research areas:

• Production—Producing hydrogen from renewable energy sources such as biomass, solar, and wind using both chemical and electrochemical conversion technologies
• Fuel Cells—Improving materials and developing cost-effective manufacturing methods
• Codes and Standards—Establishing a market-receptive environment for commercializing hydrogen-based products and systems by ensuring hydrogen safety.

Hydrogen Analysis Group

The Hydrogen Analysis Group (PDF 314 KB) identifies cost-effective pathways and analyzes tools to transform the fossil fuel market to a renewable energy market. Download Adobe Reader.

With Keith Wipke as the group manger, the Hydrogen Analysis Group focuses on the following analysis areas:

• Infrastructure Analysis—Providing direction, focus, and support for the development and introduction of hydrogen by evaluating technical, economic, environmental, and integration aspects of hydrogen systems
• Technology Validation—Confirming that component technical targets for a given technology have been achieved and that system performance and operation targets are being met under realistic conditions
• Education—Developing projects to advance outreach and public education activities related to hydrogen.
