Geothermal Electricity Generation Financing

Financing for geothermal electricity projects is usually in the form of a loan. A handful of states have loan programs that may be used for geothermal electric projects, but for various reasons, these programs may have limited applicability to geothermal electric projects.

In some cases the maximum loan amount may be inadequate—$100,000 to $300,000—in others, the program focus is on facility energy-efficiency improvements or end-user projects rather than power plants. Direct loan programs are often more appropriate for geothermal heating and cooling projects.
