October 2011 Energy Systems Integration Facility Workshop

An Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) workshop was held in October 2011 to present an overview of the final plans of the ESIF, unveil the capabilities of the facility, identify priority R&D needs, and explore best practices in working with NREL to achieve the common goal of transforming our nation's energy system to one that is more efficient and powered primarily by clean energy sources. This workshop followed the initial October 2008 ESIF workshop.

At the 1-1/2 day workshop, NREL presented the final plans of the ESIF to the workshop participants, including presentations on the controlled integrated energy system platform of the facility, as well as the fully equipped, state-of-the art laboratories and outdoor test areas. Industry speakers presented on the challenges they face in relation to large-scale grid integration of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies, and breakout sessions were held to engage industry in identifying high-priority uses of the ESIF capabilities.
