Researchers in the Thermal Storage Materials Laboratory of the Energy Systems Integration Facility run high-temperature instruments for the analysis of thermophysical properties. Small samples of candidate materials are prepared and characterized using differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and other specialized analytical methods.
Work in the Materials Characterization Laboratory covers multiple analytical operations, with the overall goal of troubleshooting synthetic materials or process streams to improve performance.
