NREL is working to modernize the electric power system by making it more resilient to outages and disturbances and by supporting the integration of increasingly large amounts of renewable energy. NREL's research in distributed grid integration includes detailed electrical modeling and simulation, advanced power electronic systems design, and development of advanced control techniques. An important aspect of this work is collaboration on research and development projects with industry, academia, and government agencies. We also maintain state-of-the-art facilities and provide expert technical support in a range of distributed generation projects. Learn more about our:

NREL's distributed grid integration research is primarily performed through NREL's Power Systems Engineering Center.

NREL's Distributed Grid Integration research supports the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Electricity Delivery & Energy Reliability and Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
