Members of NREL's National Advisory Council and more than 30 Lab staff got to "kick the tires" of Toyota's first market-ready hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the Toyota Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle (FCHV), during a vehicle demonstration on April 29. The FCHV, a modified mid-size Highlander sport utility vehicle, uses an electric motor powered by a fuel cell and secondary battery. Powered by pure compressed hydrogen, the FCHV has a top speed of more than 95 miles per hour and a range of more than 180 miles.
