Throngs of visitors descended on the Solar Village on Saturday, eager to take a peek in the homes and learn from the students. Visitors participated in the public tours hosted by the decathletes, with some visitors waiting in line for 20 -30 minutes just to step inside the homes!

High resolution digital file, ~17 MB; The Solar Decathlon is a new student contest sponsored by the Department of Energy. Student teams are challenged to integrate aesthetics and modern conveniences with maximum energy production and optimal efficiency. Each team will build a uniquely designed 500-ft2 -- 800-ft2 house. Solar decathletes will transport their houses to the National Mall in Washington D.C. for the competition in the fall of 2002.
