Title:
Dangling Rope Marina, Lake Powell, Utah
Caption
In 1996, Utah Governor Mike Leavitt and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Superintendent Joseph E. Alston flipped a switch, culminating a four year $1.5 million effort to replace diesel fired generation with a state-of-the art 115 kW PV/hybrid energy system for the Dangling Rope Marina on Lake Powell, located in the remote Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. In 1998, Applied Power added another 45 kilowatts (kW) of photovoltaics to the site.

Notes:
The environmental stripe of PV has never been more pronounced than at the Dangling Rope Marina in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area at Lake Powell, Utah. This 160 kW hybrid (photovoltaic and propane) system from Applied Power was built in 1996 and expanded in 1998. It replaced a diesel fired system. The rewards of lower energy cost, less noise and lower levels of pollution accrue on a daily basis. NCPV engineers from Sandia continue to monitor system performance.
