 NREL's 24 processor Altix system. |
 NREL's Linux cluster. |
NREL's high performance computing (HPC) systems, services, and numerical simulation complement the Laboratory's strong experimental and theoretical work to advance scientific knowledge and engineering practice. The Scientific Computing Center (SCC) provides productive and reliable computing capabilities, storage, and networking systems and offers timely services and innovative assistance.
NREL's current HPC capabilities are in excess of one teraflop in peak capability. This is provided through two systems: an SGI Altix and a Linux cluster. The Altix system has 24 1.4 GHz Intel IA64 processors and a total of 48 Gigabytes of memory. The Linux cluster is composed 140 of dual AMD Opteron processor nodes. 40 of the nodes are connected with Myrinet, a high speed interconnect for applications that require fast MPI performance. The system hosts a Raid 5 storage system with a total 7 Terabytes of disk space. This system runs a 64-bit Linux operating system and supports both 32 and 64-bit applications.
NREL Scientific Computing Center computers are available for use by NREL researchers and collaborators requiring use of high performance computing systems. Contact the SCC for further information.
