Dr. Yufeng Zhao graduated from the Physics Department of Harbin University of Sci. & Tech. and earned
his Ph.D. at the Peking University in 1998. After working for two years at the Institute of Physics,
Chinese Academy of Sciences, he continued his studies at Rice University on one-dimensional materials, e.g.,
carbon nanotubes and silicon nanowires. His background includes: laser physics, condensed matter physics,
and experience in following numerical techniques of computer simulations - Tight-binding molecular dynamics,
Gaussian, Plane Wave Pseudopotential (PP-PW). He joined NREL (Computational Materials Group) as a Research
Associate in August 2003. Dr. Yufeng Zhao is currently working on low dimensional systems (quantum dots,
nanotube and nanowires, surfaces) and doping of semiconductors.
Current research interests:
- Hydrogen Storage in Carbon-Based Materials.
- Design of High Surface-Area Materials for Gas Sorption.
- Semiconductor Nanostructures (Silicon).
