Dr. Woon Ih Choi is a postdoctoral researcher in the Computational Materials Science group at NREL.
He received his B.S. (2001) in Physics Education, M.S. (2003) and Ph. D. (2008) in Physics from Seoul National University
under the guidance of Prof. Jisoon Ihm. Dr. Choi interest are in electronic structure and thermodynamic properties
of nanosized materials including carbon nanotubes, metallofullerenes, organometallic compounds. He specializes
in first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations; self-consistent LDA+U, nudged elastic band (NEB) method,
and ab initio molecular dynamics.
Current research interests:
- Weak interaction for hydrogen storage such as Kubas and van der Waals.
- Solid/liquid interface and interphase for photoelectrochemical water splitting.
- Thermodynamics of hydrogen storage.
