Dr. Su-Huai Wei is a Principal Scientist and Group Manager of the Theoretical Material Science
Group in the Materials and Computational Science Center at NREL. He received a B.S. in Physics from Fudan University,
Shanghai, China, in 1981 and a Ph.D. in Physics from the College of William and Mary in 1985 (with Prof.
Henry Krakauer). He joined NREL in 1985. His current research is focused on developing first-principles electronic
structure theory of materials, which includes studying:
- Electronic structures and stabilities of ordered and disordered semiconductor and metallic alloys,
superlattices, and interfaces
- Magnetic properties of semiconductors
- Optoelectronic properties of photovoltaic and light emitting materials.
- Electronic properties of organic and hybrid semiconductors.
- Defect physics in semiconductors and quantum dots.
- Hydrogen storage materials.
Dr. Wei has published more than 230 peer-reviewed papers, including more than 56 articles in
Physical Review Letters and
Physical Review Rapid Communications. His papers have been cited more than 7500 times.
Since 1999, he has been a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
