Joongoo Kang is a postdoctoral researcher in the Computational Materials Science group at NREL. He received his
B.S. degree (2001), M.S. degree (2003), and his Ph.D. (2007), all in physics from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science
and Technology (KAIST) under the supervision of Prof. Kee Joo Chang. His background is materials science based on the
First-Principles Density-Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, ranging over the defect physics in semiconductors,
magnetic properties of diluted magnetic semiconductors, and electron transport in nanoscale systems. Joongoo Kang
joined NREL in January 2008.
His current research interests are:
- Nanoscale thermal storage materials.
- Material design for battery applications.
- Hydrogen storage.
