ProLogis Status Report - Commercial Building Partnerships
This ProLogis warehouse features daylighting and high-efficiency fluorescent lighting.
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is working with ProLogis, one of the companies participating in Commercial Building Partnerships (CBP). Here you will find more information about ProLogis' involvement with CBP.
ProLogis Background
ProLogis is a global provider of distribution facilities, with more than 475 million square feet of industrial space in North America, Europe, and Asia. The company leases space to manufacturers, retailers, transportation companies, third-party logistics providers, and other enterprises with large-scale distribution needs.
Why ProLogis Participates in Commercial Building Partnerships
ProLogis' participation in CBP is a natural extension of its corporate commitment to sustainability. Some of the energy efficiency strategies ProLogis already employs at its buildings include energy-efficient lighting systems and natural daylighting.
On January 1, 2008, in support of strengthening its commitment to "green" building, ProLogis pledged to register all new U.S. developments with the U.S. Green Building Council for LEED® certification. Similarly, on April 1, 2008, ProLogis committed to achieving BREEAM certification for all new developments in the United Kingdom. BREEAM is a rating system used in Europe that is very similar to LEED.
In addition to environmental stewardship, ProLogis also incorporates social responsibility and business excellence into its sustainability strategy.
ProLogis is committed to reducing both our own and our customers' carbon footprints. Improved building energy efficiency not only reduces carbon emissions, but also saves money through reduced energy use and results in more comfortable buildings. Working with NREL will help us fine-tune our building energy efficiency strategies and further reduce the ecological impact of our portfolio.

Where ProLogis is in the Process
ProLogis is in Stage One (Pre-Planning Phase) of the CBP process, and is actively evaluating prospective projects. Read more about the CBP Process.
Lessons Learned
As a real estate developer that doesn't operate its facilities, ProLogis has learned that partnering with a customer who also places a high priority on energy efficiency will increase the chances of the project's success. In addition, the retrofit project must be representative of a significant percentage of the portfolio in order for the lessons learned to be applicable to the bulk of ProLogis' existing buildings. Although accounting for multiple variables may slow ProLogis' progress through the CBP process, it will maximize the value of the program over the long term.
