William S. Adney - Senior Scientist
Bill Adney provides 16 years of experience in the fields of microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology of hydrolytic enzymes for the conversion of biomass. Prior to joining NREL, he spent 8 years with the State of Colorado establishing an anaerobic bacteriology laboratory and isolating and identifying veterinary pathogens. During his tenure at NREL, he has been responsible for assembling a state-of-the-art protein purification facility and has developed extensive experience in microorganism isolation, protein purification, and the expression of heterologous proteins in fungal and bacterial systems. His work at NREL has included anaerobic digestion research, and he has directed projects within the Department of Energy's Initiatives for Proliferation Prevention Program by collaborating with former weapons laboratories in Russia and Kazakhstan in the area of natural products discovery. He is the current chairman of the NREL Biosafety Panel and is a registered specialist in microbiology by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
