Training
NREL provides training and instruction that helps governments, businesses, tribes, and other organizations build capacity to implement clean energy technology deployment projects successfully.
NREL supports the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in providing instruction in the use of energy efficiency and renewable energy assessment tools. For example, we assist with DOE's Federal Energy Management courses on renewable energy project implementation, low-energy sustainable laboratory design, project financing, energy savings performance contracts, and utility energy services contracts.
NREL offers training in the use of HOMER, a software tool that evaluates the economic and technical feasibility of conventional and renewable energy technologies. It ranks the feasibility of configurations according to total net present cost.
We participate in hands-on training modules that incorporate the following NREL resources:
- Renewable energy models and tools such as HOMER
- Renewable energy technology overviews, including solar, wind energy, bioenergy, and hybrid power systems.
- Information on energy policy development and application, including:
- Renewable energy in a global context
- Village power lessons learned
- Renewable energy policy options
- Climate change and the environment.
We also support a variety of DOE training programs in specific technology areas. For example, DOE's Clean Cities Coordinator Toolbox provides coordinators of Clean Cities coalitions with a range of training opportunities and resources to help implement alternative fuels and advanced vehicles in their regions.
Training can be customized to meet the needs of specific audiences, including policy makers, energy planners, and engineers. Instruction can also be adapted to focus on your particular interest or geographic location.
