Organizational Objectives – Analysis
The Office of Planning and Environmental Analysis at the National Energy Technology Laboratory is tasked with leading the development of the technology performance metrics and forecasting the benefits based on the projected metrics and goals. The benefits assessments of all of the fossil energy (FE) technologies are integrated for a portfolio benefit. Several spreadsheet analysis tools have been developed to help forecast benefits and to post process output from the NEMS model. FE is also working with other forecasting models e.g., MARKAL.
Analysis Activities – Relevance to Priority Topics
A) Enhance Research, Development and Deployment Portfolio Analysis Tools
We would expect to be a user of such tools and, as such, would appreciate the opportunity to have input during the development.
B) Improve Deployment Partnerships between Industry and Government
NETL/FE should participate in this activity. The NETL CRADA program and RD&D large scale projects (Clean Coal, etc.) can be models for deployment of R&D
C) Augment Energy Technologies and Demand Response Representation in Energy Models
NETL/FE should co-lead this with NREL. NETL/FE would be an authority of fossil technologies and NREL would be an authority on renewable technologies
D) Enhance Regional Technology Characterizations and Transmission Constraints in Energy Models
E) Improve Impact Evaluation Tools: Economic Development, Energy Security, Environmental Impacts
FE should participate in this activity
F) Improve Policy Analysis Tools and Integration of Data and Tools at State and Federal Levels
FE should participate in this activity
