In this episode, our hosts discuss four topics:

  1. Puerto Rico has demonstrated its commitment to achieving a 100% renewable energy system by 2050 through the groundbreaking Puerto Rico Grid Resilience and Transitions to 100% Renewable Energy Study, a multilaboratory effort. The study was prompted by Hurricanes Irma and María—which destroyed 80% of Puerto Rico's electrical grid, resulting in the island's longest blackout.
  2. An NREL study reveals a looming shortage of more than 124,000 workers in the U.S. wind energy sector by 2030, emphasizing the imperative for collaborative efforts to raise awareness, enhance training, create connections, and promote inclusivity in the workforce.
  3. NREL librarians perform critical behind-the-scenes work to facilitate access to crucial information and publications for NREL researchers, supporting the advancement of renewable energy research.
  4. Nancy Haegel, director of NREL's National Center for Photovoltaics, is among the American Association for the Advancement of Science's 2023 fellows—an honor recognizing her distinguished contributions to materials science, semiconductor transport, infrared detectors, and renewable energy.
